How to use this website
The maps
The Directgov Blue Badge map has both a rail network map and a street map. You can switch between the two using the text in the top right hand corner of the screen - 'Switch to rail network map' or 'Switch to street map'. Your current location on the map will remain the same when you switch.
Searching the maps
If you want to search for a specific location, you can enter the postcode, street name or place name for that location in the search box. This will give you a list of possible locations - click the one you require and the map will zoom to that location. Please note that not the whole of the UK is covered by the map.
If you are using the rail map, enter a railway station name or postcode.
Using the maps
To look around the area you have selected, click and hold down the mouse button on the map to move around. To zoom in or out, use the magnifier at the top left hand side of the map - there are eight zoom levels shown by the six blocks between the '+' and '-' signs. You can also zoom in one level by double-clicking on the map. If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, this can also be used to control the zoom level.
Displaying information
On the rail network map, only information relevant to rail travel is displayed. Clicking on a rail station on the map will bring up detailed information about that station, including accessibility information.
On the street map, you can choose which facilities to display from the 'facilities' menu on the left hand side of the screen. Tick or un-tick the tick box next to the facilities you wish to view. After you have made your selection, click the 'show' box at the bottom. Not all facilities are displayed at each zoom level, so if you cannot see what you are looking for, you may need to zoom in further.
Clicking on a facility will bring up a box displaying information about it. For example, clicking on a Blue Badge bay brings up information on the number of bays available and any time restrictions. Click anywhere on the map to close this box and continue browsing.
Areas covered
You can choose a town or city from the 'areas covered' menu on the left hand side. The menu displays all towns and cities that are covered by the map.
